UV Air Disinfection for a Winery: Localized Sanitation in the Bottling Area

Project Overview

In early 2025, a food processing company specializing in wine production approached us with a request to implement UV air disinfection in a critical processing zone—the bottling and sealing section. The goal was to improve microbiological air safety without altering the production layout.

The disinfection zone was an enclosed compartment within the bottling unit, approximately 5 m³ in volume, exposed to high humidity and regular cleaning cycles.

Our Approach: UVL-Aero Prof 55

After technical consultation, we proposed the UVL-Aero Prof 55, a compact UV-C air disinfection unit designed for enclosed environments with no active ventilation. Its localized action made it ideal for production lines involving open product exposure, such as bottling.

Delivered Components:

  • 2 × UVL-Aero Prof 55 disinfection fixtures
  • 2 × 55W shatterproof UV-C lamps (T8 type)
  • Stainless steel AISI 304 housings, IP65 rated for moisture resistance
  • Built-in electronic ballasts
  • Extended connection cables
  • Mounting hardware and full documentation

The system operates at 254 nm in the UV-C range, effectively neutralizing over 99% of airborne pathogens, including spore-forming bacteria. The lamps have an operational lifespan of up to 8,000 hours under standard conditions and comply with safety standards for food and beverage production environments.

Deployment Timeline

The project progressed rapidly: once payment was confirmed, the equipment was assembled, securely packaged, and shipped via a logistics partner. The shipment included all manuals and installation guides. Inspection upon delivery confirmed full integrity of the contents.

Results and Benefit

The winery successfully integrated a non-intrusive UV air disinfection solution, meeting strict hygiene standards at a critical point in the production process.

Key outcomes:

  • Significant reduction of microbiological risks during bottling
  • Simple installation — no system redesign required
  • Reliable operation in high-humidity environments
  • Improved sanitary compliance without major capital expenditure

This case demonstrates the value of localized UV disinfection in wine production and food processing — delivering powerful microbial control with minimal disruption or cost.
