The Challenge: Stable UV Disinfection Amid Water Level Variations
In the spring of this year, a fish farm reached out to us with a clear goal: implement a dependable UV disinfection system to protect water quality in their recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). A key challenge was the unstable water level in their open tanks, which regularly fluctuated by 10–15 cm due to operational processes.
Such fluctuations pose a problem for submerged UV lamps: if the lamp surface is exposed to air, it can overheat, significantly reducing lifespan and risking failure.
The Floating UV Design
To ensure consistent lamp submersion, we proposed a floating-mounted UV system. Each module was suspended from a rigid support attached to the tank's edge, with an adjustable buoyancy float maintaining the correct depth. Additional weights at the bottom kept the lamp in vertical orientation, even when the water surface shifted.
This approach ensured that:
- The active part of the lamp was always submerged, providing consistent disinfection
- The system avoided overheating, preserving lamp life and efficiency
This compact and effective technical design allowed the UV disinfection system to be adapted to site-specific conditions without expensive structural changes.
Equipment Supplied
To meet the operational needs, we delivered:
- 3 × UVL Mod 19210 submersible modules, each with a 210W amalgam UV lamp
- Protective quartz sleeves
- Sealed entry points
- Electronic ballasts
- 10-meter waterproof connection cables
- Packaging and terminal delivery
All lamps emit at 254 nm, without ozone generation, and are optimized for continuous underwater operation.
Warranty and Support
The customer received a detailed technical offer with a 10% discount. All equipment is covered by an extended warranty, and the UV lamps are rated for up to 12,000 hours of operation. Should a lamp fail prematurely, free replacement is provided upon visual confirmation (photo or video).
Result: Efficient and Expandable
The system was successfully commissioned and is now running smoothly. The client has already initiated discussions about expanding UV protection to additional tanks. The solution has proven to be both practical and effective for aquaculture operations requiring continuous water disinfection.
